My fellow authors: You HAVE done enough this year

by Hannah Smith December 15, 2022
    December 15, 2022

It’s easy for us to get caught in the trap of: “I haven’t done enough this year”. Sometimes we feel like we’re behind the eight ball, that we’ve failed. Sometimes we think we haven’t really achieved anything; that the year…

I’ve got a lot of ‘C’ in me and it shows

by Hannah Smith February 10, 2020
    February 10, 2020

While the world continues to spew out things for people to be outraged about (e.g. global warming, coronavirus, Donald Trump’s lack of impeachment *shocker*), I have been more or less distracted by attempting to write a fucking novel. Why did…

Become a writer they said. No wait, that was just me.

by Hannah Smith December 24, 2019
    December 24, 2019

Holy crap, I’ve hit several roadblocks with my writing lately. Even though I’ve done a shitload of preparation to still hit my 40,000 word count by the end of December – Christmas and all its shenanigans are dangerously close to…

A wake up call from Aussie pop culture royalty

by Hannah Smith September 27, 2019
    September 27, 2019

H As someone who often thinks about their mental health (and who also adores both Osher Gunsberg and Rosie Waterland) I found a recent podcast of them together, comforting. Heroic Self Care with Rosie Waterland is a conversation about all…

I’m a swirling mass of anxiety who likes to write

by Hannah Smith September 10, 2019
    September 10, 2019

I went to the Brisbane Writers Festival this past weekend. As someone who experiences anxiety with seemingly uneventful tasks, this was a big deal for me. I drove into Brisbane, paid over-the-odds for parking, managed to find the correct auditoriums…

Writer’s block: when your imaginary friends won’t talk to you

by Hannah Smith October 10, 2017
    October 10, 2017

Writer’s block can EAD. I’ve been stuck in a rut with my writing (with lots of things actually, but let’s stick with writing for the sake of everyone’s sanity). I’ve had several people ask me when my next blog post…

(spoilers ensue).

I don’t know what your thoughts were on this book, but I devoured it in a day so🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes - the female lead is positively perfect in every way, with a disposition so sweet that you just KNOW she’s going to attract the complete opposite in a man.

And yes - the male lead is ridiculously perfect in every way. He’s successful, wealthy and obnoxious. He does the whole “I hate everyone except her” thing and naturally, he’s a stud in bed. Like, he can go for HOURS and has the FILTHIEST mouth and you’re like sureeee mate.

But … I WAS HERE FOR IT ALL🔥🔥

Give me the alphahole, millionaire, ice-king, steam to the billionth degree, morally grey, grumpy/sunshine, possessive and toxic tropes any day of the week💅🏼

Be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving into this one.

I used to think practicing gratitude was lame. Eve I used to think practicing gratitude was lame. Even now, when I hear people talk about it, sometimes my reaction is: Okay🙄

But it DOES help me, especially when things get stressful or I’m overwhelmed. When I think I’m out of my depth, or I start comparing my journey to someone else’s, or I start fretting about the future … taking a moment to be grateful for what I have and how far I’ve come, brings me calm.

I try and do this every time I sit on the beach, cos I am LUCKY to live where I live. It might be hippy and uncomfortable for some of us, but I recommend taking a few minutes each day to do it.

Do you actively practice gratitude? Do you journal or meditate or sit with it?✨
