I’ve made it to day 14 of my reboot boys and girls. #hero
Come Thursday night, Josh and I will be going to either Taco Thursdays at Aloha or eating gyoza and chicken katsu curry at our favourite beer stadium, as a mini-celebration for me kicking my own butt for nearly three weeks.
I do realise that 18/19 days for a health reboot isn’t a long time, but for me, it is. I went from mindlessly eating everything in sight and training now and then, to eating the same portion sizes of the same food everyday, and training 5-6 times per week.
There were things I knew I’d have to give up, but some hurt more than others.
I haven’t had any:
- Bread – meaning no god damn rye toast in the mornings.
- Cheese – I want so much cheese.
- Beer – enough said.
- Popcorn – I went to watch Jurassic World II (the disappointment of that is another story altogether) and Josh got coke and popcorn … I didn’t have ONE sip or ONE piece of popcorn. #heroagain
- Fruit – apart from a single frozen raspberry I ate in desperation.
- Tea with milk or sugar – I’ve resorted to peppermint teas and I’ll tell you what, peppermint tea is not tea.
- Coffee with milk – I love me a flat white, but I’ve been sticking to strictly black, and only when the need is dire. Like 5am on a Wednesday or Saturday.
- All the usual suspects: chocolate, lollies, pizza, pasta, gyoza, sushi, desserts, bacon, anything cheese-platter-related, avocado, potatoes in any form, egg yolks, standard full cream milk, pork belly nuggets Josh, Ian and Turtle had at The Collective last night, cheeky Deliveroo orders of Thai food on the weekends, my sister’s birthday cake, gravy … the list could go on forever.
So, how has week number two gone?
Well as you can probably tell, I’ve been thinking about food a lot. I’ve also found that because I haven’t been able to indulge myself with the above treats, I’ve been channelling my energy into other things – like housework and spending money I don’t have on making our apartment pretty. I bought new linen (poor Josh has to deal with a pink and grey theme in the bedroom now) and I’ve vacuumed every night this past week, because it distracts me from looking in the fridge. I also discovered a Nike ankle sock in the vacuum bag and that our sometimes-cleaning-lady has been using the vacuum to suck up leaves on the balcony – and not emptying the bag once she’s done ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I can’t claim complete sainthood though.
I went off my meal plan last night at The Collective. I did factor this in earlier in the week, so I didn’t feel too guilty by the time Saturday rolled around. I stuck to what I was allowed for dinner – protein and vegetables – and ending up eating some edamame beans and most of an appropriately portioned tuna poke. Every bite was delightful AF, because a) the food there is amazing and b) because it wasn’t turkey mince or beef or plain chicken. I drank sparkling water and said no to pork belly nuggets, scallops, pork bao, dirty deep-fried chicken and beer. It was a test I didn’t think I’d pass, but somehow I did, and I proved to myself I can be strong when I choose to be.
A quick seven day summary:
- Day 8: My food is prepped, I’ve done a solid session back in the F45 shed and I’ve got this in the bag.
- Day 9: Today was possibly the worst day of work I have had in a long time and ordinarily I would make myself feel better with something naughty, but instead I have to wait an hour until I can eat some God damn chicken and almonds. Fml.
- Day 10: It’s already a better day today. Athletica was off its head and I’m not craving bad food.
- Day 11: I want a vanilla cupcake.
- Day 12: It’s not worth doing this for another week. I want potato or quinoa or spicy soup or anything else. And there are leaves in the piping of our vacuum cleaner. Why though?
- Day 13: Hollywood was awesome – being around people on the F45 Challenge is a reminder of why I’m doing what I’m doing.
- Day 14: I managed to not eat excessively or drink at the Collective last night – I can hang in there for five more days. Surely. Hopefully.
As cringeworthy as it might sound, coming into the final week of my reboot feels somewhat empowering.
I’ve already said no to a million treats, I’ve gone to the gym and trained hard when I didn’t feel like it and I went out with friends as the designated driver – and had a good time (IKR, I’ve even impressed myself with that one).
I’m looking forward to getting my measurements done on Wednesday, seeing the results of my scan on Thursday and reflecting on my mini-challenge whilst I drink an icy cold beer on Thursday night.
For those interested, on Thursday night/Friday morning, I will put up a post sharing my results and reflections. I have no idea what to expect with my results – I may be surprised or, it may be way too soon to see much of a difference – but whether I’m stoked, disappointed, or in between, I promise to be nothing but honest in my final reboot blog.
